ABSTRACT

BEAM is an application suite which facilitates the utilisation, viewing and processing of the Envisat MERIS, (A)ATSR, ASAR and MODIS data products. The software is being developed by Brockmann Consult GmbH under contract of ESA. Continued as an open source project, BEAM has become the most used, freely available software used throughout the Envisat scientific user community.

This exercise is intended for participants which have already been in touch with the BEAM software and are familiar with the basic functions. Advanced tools, such as Ortho-rectification, co-registration of MERIS and AATSR products, working with the Pin Manager or working with new „real“ and „virtual“ bands will be introduced. Beyond the usage of VISAT, BEAM offers different processors for e.g. Level 3 binning, Mosaic processor or Atmospheric Correction using the SMAC algorithm. These processors will be introduced as well.

BEAM can be downloaded from Envisat home page (http://envisat.esa.int/services/beam).
