“Isn’t there even a single company providing online services for the scientific research community who is able to understand what we need, someone who speaks our language?” We pondered this question around the turn of the millennium, being a research-group in theoretical cluster-physics at the time. When it became clear, that we had to answer with “no” in 2002, we founded the Institute for Science Networking Oldenburg GmbH (ISN).
Since then we have been supporting our clients and partners in scientific projects, developing services with and for research workgroups, publishers, libraries and sports-clubs, as well as providing private industry with IT-infrastructure, and sharing our expertise and ideas with them. As an official Institute at the Carl-von-Ossietzky University Oldenburg, we are directly involved in the context of science & higher education. We can (actually) understand (most of) the scientists! in their need for scientific communication services. Our knowledge about the information management processses in scientific institutes, libraries and public services offers us a unique perspective for identifying, supporting and creating innovative projects, technologies & products. We are a diverse team in terms of physical age, scientific/technical and personal background, which we find to be very helpful in the creative process of developing solutions based on the most current reliable and promising technology.
We also like reaching out and are active in numerous European projects and global boards developing and promoting new standards: We are currently part of the Advisory Board of the Dublin Core Metadata Initiative (DCMI), took part in the development of W3C XQuery. We are an early joiner of the ORCID Initiative, since we consider it to be a key infrastructural component in permitting the realization and long-term operation of author-based services free of copyright related legal challenges. We cooperate with international learned societies, such as EARSeL.
We would like to invite you for a coffee or tea to work out fitting solutions for your tasks. We are in frequent and direct contact with our customers without resorting to remote relays or call centers: We can always be reached directly!
